My Morning Skincare Routine

Hello everyone! Hope you're doing well. Today I've come to you with a post all about my morning skincare routine. I'm not a skincare expert by any means, but it's definitely something I want to become more educated about this year. There is no one size fits all skincare routine, so keep in mind that the products that work for me may not work for you.

Here's a little run down of my skin, which may help you figure out if you might be compatible with the same products. My skin is normal/dry now days. It used to be so incredibly dry a few years ago, but luckily those days feel like a distant memory. I recently turned 25, so I'm also beginning to focus on anti-ageing. I'm not overly sensitive anymore, but I definitely used to be.

I'm going to go through all the products roughly in the order I apply them. I don't do all of this every day, some days I'll do majority of everything but other days I may only do one or two steps depending on how much time I have (or how lazy I may be feeling).

I've recently started using a micellar water first thing in the morning. I'll do this before I have breakfast just to get the residue of any product I had on the night before. Once I've had breakfast, I wash my face gently with a warm wash cloth. It's such a small and basic step but it's my favourite thing to do in the morning. I don't feel awake until this step is completed.

Most mornings I use the Pixi Glow Tonic, as long as I'm not in a rush. It's a gentle exfoliating toner that helps add brightness and keeps my skin clear. It's not quite the miracle worker for me that it seems to be for some people, but it makes enough of a difference that I enjoy having it be a part of my routine. I could see myself switching to something stronger in a few years, but for now it does what I need it to do.

Around the start of last year I started noticing that my skin was starting to age. Just a few lines around my eyes, nothing major, but it did make me think that it might be time to add an anti-ageing product to my routine. I chose the Buffet by The Ordinary and after a few months of use I did notice that most of the lines had significantly faded. Over the past few weeks I've started rotating daily between this and the Ole Henriksen Truth Serum, which I wanted to try as an alternate to the Drunk Elephant C-Firma Day Serum. I didn't see huge results from that one, but I did want to try another serum with Vitamin C. I haven't been using it long enough to know if there is a true difference yet, but so far I am enjoying it.

Next I use the Khiel's Creamy Eye Treatment. I just use a small amount and lightly tap it into my undereyes. It's definitely kept them from looking quite as sallow as they were. I find that my concealer looks better since I've been using it too. I rotate this with the Clinique Pep-Start Eye Cream. I don't like it quite as much, but it's still nice.

I know it's not everyone's cup of tea, but I really enjoy using a thicker moisturiser in the morning. My favourite is the It Cosmetics Confidence In A Cream. It faintly smells of lemons and always makes my skin feel so much more plump. I usually try to leave at least 5 minutes between using this and going in with makeup, just to give it time to sink in.

Of a weekend, I don't always do a full routine. If I sleep in a little longer, or go to the gym first thing, I won't always remember or feel like doing every step. On lazy days like this I like to apply Hyaluronic Acid from the Ordinary. It takes a few minutes for the tackiness to go away, and once it's gone I like to follow up with a little spritz of the Mario Badescu facial spray. This is a step that I don't ever do on work days because I find that it pills if I put makeup on over it.

Saving the most important step for last, sunscreen. I have two go-to sunscreens, the Mecca and La Roche-Posay ones. They're both SPF 50+, and they both wear really well under makeup. They're a little pricey so I reserve them for my face and neck, but they're both really great if you want to protect your skin without that greasy feel. This step is a total must, especailly if you're using products like the Glow Tonic that increases your skins sensitivity to sun damage.

As I said in the beginning, I don't do every single step every day. Sometimes I'll just wear sunscreen and nothing else. But most days I try to give my skin the attention it deserves. What products are in your morning routine?

  3. I love Glow Tonic but I only use it in the evenings as I'm too unreliable with suncream! I want to buy that La Roche Posay one though as I think that would motivate me to wear it daily as I love their products!
