USA Makeup Haul

Hello and welcome to part two of my USA Haul! Last time it was all skincare, this time it's all about makeup. I somehow managed to time my trip with a Sephora sale so there's a lot here. Like, a lot, lot. This is already going to be a pretty long post, so let's just jump right in:

The very first purchases I made were from Pat McGrath Labs. I was immediately drawn to the MTHRSHP Subliminal Platinum Bronze palette because of all the cool toned taupe shades. I love a beautiful warm eyeshadow as much as the next girl, but I'm also very drawn to cooler shades. I also had to pick up a gloss. I chose Flesh Astral, which is a sheer nude with golden shimmer. I think I'll write a full review for the palette, but as for the gloss, I am in love! Definitely a treat your self kind of gloss, but so dreamy.

USA Skincare Haul

Hello everyone! Today I'm bringing you an overdue skincare haul. I was in Los Angeles in August/September and basically threw my money at Sephora. In Australia a lot of these things are either hard to get or really expensive. This lead to me going all out and hauling like I've never hauled before. I've had a little bit of time to play with the items mentioned, so I can give some first impressions and talk about my experiences so far. Let's get into it:

We popped in to the Beverly Center on the first day of the trip. I headed straight for the Drunk Elephant gondola when I went into Sephora, set on the T.L.C Sukari Babyfacial. It's a product we can't get in Australia due to the high amount of AHA it contains. I follow a lot of people that love this product, so I had to see what all the fuss was about. I've used it a few times now and I've been blown away. I need to test it out a little more before giving it a full review, but it's completely gotten rid of the texture on my chin.

Trying Makeup Revolution Eyeshadows

I remember the first time I'd heard of Makeup Revolution. I was watching a Shaaanxo video when I was first getting into makeup. She was using one of their dupes of the Too Faced Sweetheart blushes.  It looked cute and she seemed to like it, but for a long time I thought that was all the brand did. Dupe other brands. I've always felt a little funny about that sort of thing, so I was never really tempted to try anything from the brand.

It wasn't until a few years later that I'd started taking notice of their more original creations. I'm not sure if that's just because they started producing more original products, or if people just started talking about them more. Either way, I was definitely paying more attention to them than I had previously.

Currently Loving | 001

Hello and welcome to the start of a new series on my blog! I've decided that since I'm the worst at posting monthly favourites, I would start this instead. Every so often, when I have a set of products I'm reaching for more than others, I'll come here to tell you about them. A lot of other bloggers do this, so I figured I would start too. So here's to the first! Hope you enjoy.

A Go-To Skincare Review

Go-To Skincare is an Australian brand founded in 2014 by Zoë Foster-Blake. If you're not familiar, she's basically royalty in the Australian beauty world. As a beauty editor, author and blogger she already had a loyal fan base before launching the brand. I've been following Zoë and Go-To for a few years now, so I couldn't put off testing out the products any longer.

I'm one of those people who has a list in their heads of brands/specific items that I want to buy, but never actually gets around to trying them. Instead of buying something I've been thinking about for months or years, I'll grab something completely different because in the moment I can't think of the things I actually want. This is how I've been with Go-To for a little while now.

I picked up the Pinky-Nudey Lips as a GWP with a magazine last year, but it's still taken me this long to order anything more. I was starting to notice people outside of the beauty community talk about them, a lot. I work in a pretty big office and so many of the girls are loyal customers of the brand. My friends were doing group orders of the cleanser and sheet masks. I was struck with some serious FOMO. The peachy packaging. The quirky product names and descriptions. The glowing reviews. It was time for me to place an order.

My Favourite Makeup Brushes

Using the right brush for the right job can elevate a look just as quickly as using the wrong brush can ruin a look. Before I got in to makeup I'd buy brushes that weren't designed for the things I needed them for. I'd buy ones that would shed and break. In the hopes of someone else avoiding that trial and error, I thought it would be worth sharing the brushes that I've fallen in love with through the years.

This isn't my entire collection, just the tried and true favourites. The ones that I would be most likely to buy again if they were to all be stolen or something (let's hope not). Most mentioned here are pretty affordable, thought there are a few high end ones mentioned as well. Price can definitely be a factor when it comes to finding good brushes, but not always.

Empties - Products I've Used Up | 006

Hello and welcome to my sixth empties post! I've mentioned a few times that I've been making the choice to buy a lot less makeup this year. Partly to save money, but also because I have a lot of products that are starting to creep up in age. I want to give them all a bit more use before they expire, or I declutter them. A lot of my powder products are older, so I don't want to keep adding to my collection unless I'm also letting things go.

Because of this, I've been seeing a lot more use out of the products I currently have. I've hit pan on two highlighters this month, which is crazy for me! None of them are close to being done, but it's so refreshing to see my products not look untouched. The products this time around are mainly skincare, with a few makeup bits too. It's always the way these posts go though, makeup is really hard to actually finish if you have a lot of it. So let's get into it:

Meet Your Mask Kit Reivew | Peter Thomas Roth

A little while ago I was sent the Meet Your Mask set by Peter Thomas Roth. I regularly try mini sizes of skincare before investing in anything full sized. It's just an easier way to make sure something agrees with your skin without spending as much money. My skin is usually pretty good, but it can sometimes be sensitive and reactive, which is why I like to have the chance to sample products first.

I started thinking about how some masks show immediate results, where others require regular use. So I thought I'd come to you with something that isn't quite a full review, but more than a first impressions. I've gotten 3 - 4 uses out of each of the masks and thought I'd share my findings. After trying them all, which do I think is most worth purchasing a full size of? Were there any I didn't notice a difference with at all?

The 5 Minute Face

Hello everyone! Hope you're all having a great day. I'm currently home sick with an upset stomach so I thought I'd try to get a blog post out. I've been meaning to write this one for a while now, but I've been hit hard with writers block. I'm blaming winter. I'm also blaming the fact that I've barely bought any makeup all year. It's just so much easier to feel inspired when surrounded by new things. But that's okay. I'm getting past that.

So on to the point of this post. I'm sure we've all been in situations where we only have five or ten minutes to be out the door, and unfortunately a completely bare face isn't always an option. I feel like I've really mastered that very-minimal-but-still-put-together thing, so I thought I'd share my routine for you. When last minute plans pop up, I tend to go for a very minimal look. It suits me better to have everything done minimally than to just focus on one area of my face.

Current Beauty Wishlist | 002

I'm only a few months away from my trip to Los Angeles this August, and I am in full planning mode. I've got a spread sheet full of details about the trip. A full itinerary, packing list and a price comparison breakdown of things I'm interested in buying. Then there's also a page full of things I want to buy that we can't get in-store in Australia. I don't know when I became such a detailed holiday planner, but I guess this is who I am now. I actually find it... fun.

So while chipping away at this spread sheet I realised that I had enough things to do a huge wishlist post. Then I realised that if I were to throw everything I want into one post it would be too big. So I've narrowed the list down to the things that I want the most. The 10 things that I am almost positive I will either be getting before I go or while I'm there. And here they are:

Empties - Products I've Used Up | 005

Hello and welcome to my fifth empties post! They're always my favourites write and to read from other bloggers too. I love seeing what items people like enough to use up, or that they hate-use their way through. It's also really freeing to finally be able to throw out all of this rubbish that I've been keeping in my drawers for a few months.

You might notice my photos looks a little different compared to normal in this post. On Sunday when I was setting up to take pictures I discovered that my soft boxes had broken. It was too late to buy new ones and it was such an overcast day. I did the best I could, and I actually don't hate how they look. Kind of cosy in a way. I still haven't replaced them, so if you have any lighting recs let me know! I'm torn on whether to replace them or try a ring light instead. Anyway, on to the empties:

The Balm Meet Matte Shmaker Palette Review and Swatches

Hello and welcome to another eyeshadow palette review. This time I'll be giving you my thoughts on the Meet Matte Shmaker palette by The Balm. It's the newest in the Meet Matte line, and the first of them to include shimmer shadows. I've had my eye on it since it was released, so I was pretty excited when it was sent to me. I've never tried The Balm's shadows before, so I was definitely interested to see if the formula is all it's hyped up to be.

First things first: the packaging. I'm not usually one for overly cutesy packaging, but I do like this. It's sweet without being sickly (at least for my taste). I know it won't be for everyone, but it avoids being in the Too Faced Chocolate Bon Bons "childrens makeup" category for me. I also like the slim cardboard packaging. It's more lightweight than plastic, and so much better for the environment. I know some people think it looks cheaper, but I would rather something take up less space in my drawers and be a little more travel friendly.

Anti-Haul - What I'm Not Gonna Buy | 001

Hello and welcome to a new little series on my blog! After watching and reading and just all around loving Anti-Hauls for so long, I wanted to dip my toes in the water. Now, if you've not heard of them before, they are basically a list of products that I will not be purchasing. I suggest watching a few of Kimberly Clark's so that you can sing what I'm not gonna buyyyyy in your head just like I do everytime I see the words Anti-Haul.

With all the talk of what new releases excite us and what products we're currently loving, I felt like I should be sharing the products that don't interest me. Whether it be due to the price, or if it's just not my style. It can be interesting to see different takes on things like that. I might say a product looks ugly while you may immediately add it to your cart. So let's get into the new and upcoming releases that I will not be buying:

Swatching My Highlighter Collection

This post is one I've been thinking about doing for a while. I love highlighters and I know I'm not the only one. I wanted to have a little visual archive for myself to help keep track of what I already have. By type (liquid, cream or powder), and by colour. I've never felt overwhelmed by my highlighter collection, but I'm definitely at the point where I don't need to buy any more.

I think I have all of my bases covered at this point and I probably have a few I could declutter too. I think this will be helpful for me to (hopefully) avoid buying things which I have dupes for. It was also interesting for me to see current dupes I have in my collection. I'll go through each of the products individually down below. Hopefully you find this helpful in some way, I know I'll be referring back to it next time I'm considering buying a new highlighter. For reference I am fair with yellow undertones (Mac NC10 or Nars Siberia).

What's In My Travel Makeup Bag? - Weekend Away

If you've seen my last post you'll know that I recently had a little weekend trip to Flinders. I love reading about what makeup people take away with them when they go on holidays, so I thought I'd share mine. It was a quick two night stay, so I tried really hard not to over-pack. I'm sure we've all been guilty of thinking we might need three different blushes for a week long trip before.

We drove up on a Friday and came home on Sunday, so I tried to narrow down the skincare I took to only what I would actually have a chance to use. I could have probably been a little more cut-throat, but I did still want to be able to enjoy having a small routine. Of course I made sure to pack my beloved Origins Drink Up Intensive Overnight Mask. I've made a habit of slathering my face with this every night. The Ren Flash Rinse 1 Minute Facial is one of my favourite masks for travelling. It's not at all messy, is quick to use and makes my skin feel immediately better. The packaging also doesn't take up much space and isn't prone to breaking.

Travel Diary: Flinders, Mornington Peninsula

A couple of weeks ago my partner and I took a little road trip to spend a two nights in Flinders on the Mornington Peninsula. I had an accommodation voucher from my job to use and I wanted to use it as an opportunity to explore a part of my state that I haven't before.

Maybelline Burgundy Bar Palette Review and Swatches

Hello and welcome to another palette review! I seem to review more eyeshadow palettes than any other product, but can you blame me? They are all the rage in the makeup world and they seem to be here to stay. Today I'll be talking about the Maybelline Burgundy Bar Palette. I received this in PR for consideration and decided that I wanted to share my thoughts on it.

I've never used Maybelline eyeshadow palettes and over the past few months I've been seeing positive reviews of their formula. I think I may have subconsciously still been a little bit scarred for my first few drugstore eyeshadow purchases. That is admittedly ridiculous, because they were over a decade ago at this point. I have vivid memories of my mum buying me a quad with brown and gold shades because she had read that those colours suit blue eyes. I had no idea how to use eyeshadows and I don't think YouTube existed back then, so the result wasn't fantastic.

I think since then, even though I've seen positive reviews and great tutorials with drugstore shadows, I've always associated them with me not knowing what I'm doing. That's another reason I'm happy I had the chance to use this palette. It helped me realised why I shied away from products like this despite always wanting to try them.

Empties - Products I've Used Up | 004

Hello! Welcome to the forth installment of my empties series. The past few months I've been far more interested in using the products in my existing collection rather than adding to it. Not to say that I've not been adding items in, because that would be a giant lie. I have been itching to try new things, but I don't want my collection to really get any bigger. So I've sort of just been waiting to finish things before I try new things. Let's get in and have a look at what I managed to finish over the past couple of months.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Prism Palette Review and Swatches

Hello everyone! I wanted to come to you today with a review I never thought I'd write, for a product I never thought I would own: the Prism eyeshadow palette by Anastasia Beverly Hills. Upon it's launch I wasn't really interested in it. From all of the pictures I'd seen online, it didn't really make sense to me. I'm not sure if it's just the layout of the shades, or the colours themselves, but it was pretty much an easy pass for me.

I'm not going to be doing a full, in-depth review of each shadow as I usually do. Just because this has been available for a while now and I wanted to make sure I got this up while the palette is still available (and on sale) as it was a 2017 holiday release.

January Beauty Favourties

So January is well and truly over and February has begun. I know mentioning that a month went quickly is cliched... But it really did for me. Probably because I had time off work for the first and last week. That also meant that I didn't wear makeup as much, and on days that I wasn't working I hardly bothered. The handful of times I did, these were the products I found myself reaching for.

Foundation Shade Ranges - How Inclusive Is My Collection?

Hello everyone! Hope you're all having a lovely week. Today I come to you with a post that's a little different compared to my usual content. When Fenty Beauty launched with 40 shades in their foundation range everyone was delighted. They covered fair, light, medium, deep and dark shades. They had different undertones. It was a really big moment in the industry, because it set the new standard. For years we've heard brands say that they can't release deep shades right off the bat, but they would consider making them if the line was successful. Fenty proved that wasn't true (which I think we all knew).

Enter the Tarte Shape Tape Foundations. I don't need to get into the whole thing, because it's been covered almost everywhere, but let's just say their release immediately fell flat because the shade range really only catered to white people. This opened up a huge conversation that was so long overdue. While all of this was going down, I decided to look into my own collection and really examine if the foundations I use have inclusive shade ranges or not.

Now I'm not saying that a brand without 40 foundation shades isn't inclusive. Not at all. If a line has 15 shades that has three light shades, three medium shades and three deep shades then I would consider that inclusive. Whereas if those 15 shades only cater to light to medium skintones with no deep tones (or a token one or two) then it's not inclusive. I know this sounds simple and basic, but it's something that a lot of people never think about, simply because they don't have to.

My Morning Skincare Routine

Hello everyone! Hope you're doing well. Today I've come to you with a post all about my morning skincare routine. I'm not a skincare expert by any means, but it's definitely something I want to become more educated about this year. There is no one size fits all skincare routine, so keep in mind that the products that work for me may not work for you.

Here's a little run down of my skin, which may help you figure out if you might be compatible with the same products. My skin is normal/dry now days. It used to be so incredibly dry a few years ago, but luckily those days feel like a distant memory. I recently turned 25, so I'm also beginning to focus on anti-ageing. I'm not overly sensitive anymore, but I definitely used to be.

I'm going to go through all the products roughly in the order I apply them. I don't do all of this every day, some days I'll do majority of everything but other days I may only do one or two steps depending on how much time I have (or how lazy I may be feeling).

Colourpop Pressed Shadows - My Palette Swatched

Hello and welcome to my first blog post of 2018! I hope you've all had a happy and healthy start to the year. I had a nice little break but now it's back to reality, so I'm back with a blog post. I've had the title of this post saved to my drafts for months but have had to wait until I filled my palette. There is something so satisfying about custom made single shadow palettes to me. I love seeing the different shades people choose and knowing their reasoning for them.

I've had this palette completed for a few weeks now and I've managed to arranged them in a way that makes sense to my eyes. Hopefully you can find a little inspiration here if you're looking to build a palette full of single shadows, or maybe you just want to see some pretty colours swatched. Either way, I hope you enjoy!
