Yearly Favourites | 2017

Hello and Happy New Years Eve! I'm just barely squeezing this post in before 2017 ends. I can't believe how quickly this year has come to an end. Every year feels like it goes by faster than the one before, so I feel like it will be 2038 soon. Wow, that's a scary thought. Let's get to the makeup.

I used a lot of new products this year, but not everything I've listed here was a new discovery. I narrowed it down as much as I could, but there are still a lot of things listed here. In order to not have this post be too long I tried to keep my words short and sweet.

Empties - Products I've Used Up | 003

Hello! Welcome to my last empties post of the year. I had quite a few products saved up and ready to write about this time around. There is a mix of skincare, haircare and makeup in this one, so you'll get a little bit of everything. I've been meaning to write this post for a couple of weeks, but December has been so busy! My partner and I got a puppy too, which has added to the craziness.

I'm not sure if it's my taste that has changed in the past few months or if I've just become more critical. But I have noticed that there are quite a few products in this post (and just in my collection as a whole) that I don't love as much as I used to. My skin isn't quite as forgiving as it used to be, and along with finding things that work so well for me, I feel like I don't need to use products that are 'good' when there are so many 'greats' out there.

A Lifestyle and Homewear Gift Guide

Welcome to another gift guide! This time around I'll be sharing a few lifestyle and homewear products that I think will make great presents this holiday season. I've been a little homewear crazy this year, as I'm slowly trying to transform my new apartment into my Interiors Pinterest board. I'm a really long way off, but I'll get there one day. I also wanted to share some liftstyle products that I think are a little more universal and less dependant on personal taste.

Let's start things off with the biggest splurge on my list, the Canon GX7 II camera. This is one of my favourite posessions. It takes gorgeous photos and video, has a flip up viewfinder and is very compact. Great for anyone who has a passion for photography, travel or just likes to capture memories. This is actually what I use to take my Instagram photos, it's never let me down.

A Makeup and Skincare Gift Guide

I'm pretty sure that the Christmas season started in October this year. At least, that's when I started noticing that stores were sellling decorations. I held off on writing this post for as long as I could, but starting to read everyone elses gift guides really got me inspired to write my own. As the beauty world is the world I know best, I thought I'd better share my biggest recommendations first.

Here you'll find a mix of products that I already own and love, and products that I would love to be gifted. I tried to keep things as "universal" as possible, but we all know that a truly universal makeup product doesn't really exist. Hopefully here you can find something that will leave a loved one very happy. If not, I hope you can at least find something to add to your own wishlist!

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit Volume 3 Review and Swatches

I finally caved. The last two holiday seasons I told myself I didn't need the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edits. I listened to myself when I said I already owned a full size of a shade, or that I wouldn't get use out of every pan. And I was right. I didn't need Volume One or Two. But both years I found myself wishing I had picked them up anyway (especially Volume One). It's not often that I regret not picking up a product, so I was definitely keeping an eye out for their 2017 Holiday release.

The Ambient Lighting Edit Volume Three contains three existing and three new shades in a beautiful rose gold compact. You get two Ambient Lighting Powders, an Ambient Strobe Lighting Powder, two Ambient Lighting Blushes and an Ambient Lighting Bronzer. There is good variety within this palette, but I definitely think that it is best suited for fair-tan skin. I would love to see them release one with deeper shades because these are definitely not universal.

October Favourites

So October has come to an end and it's been quite a busy month for me. I settled into my new house, joined a new gym and binge watched Stranger Things 2. Thanks to Sephora having a 20% off sale, I did a lot more makeup shopping than I usually do, so I was kept busy by trying new products.

Luckily for me, I've ended up loving pretty much everything I've tried, even though most purchases were on the impulsive side of things. A few not-so-recent loves also made their way in to my most used and enjoyed products this month.

My Favourite Nude Lipsticks

Is there anything better than finding your perfect nude lipstick? A shade you can throw on with any look, day or night and just know it will look good? Not for this girl. Does that make me a little boring? Maybe. Basic? Probably. I spent a good half hour sitting with my lipsticks, narrowing down the list to my absolute favourite nudes. From sheer to opaque. Glossy to matte. These are the lipsticks that end up in my handbag for weeks at a time.

Huda Beauty Desert Dusk Eyeshadow Palette Review

Hello! Long time no blog. Apologies for the absence, but I moved house and spent a while without wifi. As a millennial baby I'm lucky to have had internet in my house since I could say the word internet, so it was a very different few weeks for me! Don't worry though, I didn't have to sacrifice my beloved avocado on toast (how topical of me).

I thought I'd best return with something good, and what's better than a new eyeshadow palette? While in the process of moving I made a little visit to Sephora and picked up the new Huda Beauty Desert Dusk eyeshadow palette. I had been curious about it in the lead up to it's release and after seeing it in person I was a goner.

The 5 Best Spring Blushes

Winter is finally over! Even though here in Melbourne the weather hasn't really changed yet, I'm still so happy that it will be warming up soon! Even though I've been hit with the cold from hell this week, I wanted to share my favourite blushes for this time of year with you. Just because I'm not wearing makeup right now doesn't mean I'm going to stop talking about it all day long.

Empties - Products I've Used Up | 002

It's time for another empties post! I last posted one at the end of June and I have already built up quite a little pile of finished products. I loved writing my first one and I've actually found myself referring back to it a few times when deciding on certain purchases. Hopefully you find these mini reviews helpful so that I'm not just writing them to please myself!

Colourpop No Filter Concealer Review and Swatches

The Colourpop No Filter Concealers ($6 USD) recently launched online. If you're anything like me, you became a living embodiment of this when you found out about them. Colourpop seem to release a new product every few days, so sometimes it can feel hard to get excited about them. That certainly wasn't the case for these, though. I jumped on their website the moment they were available and picked up two shades.

Shopping Your Stash: How To Make The Most Of Your Makeup Collection

I have too much makeup. Well, maybe not too much... but certainly more than I need. I think considering I blog about makeup my collection is reasonable, but still far more than I will ever finish up. I'm sure a lot of people can relate to that, with so many new releases and beauty gurus saying that we need everything.

Youngblood Mineral Cosmetics Review

If your Instagram feed is anything like mine, you'll have heard of Youngblood Mineral Cosmetics. This year I've been seeing their products in flatlays and in blog posts. When they reached out to me and asked if I would like to try some of their products, I was so excited. I always get a little giddy when I try or buy products that people I trust rave about.

I read through their website to learn more about mineral cosmetics, because to be honest, I really don't know much about them. What I gathered was that because their products don't contain a lot of ingredients that can be irritants or bad for your skin (talc, mineral oil, alcohol) they are better for your skin. Their website states that they were created to be able to used on damaged skin while still allowing it to breathe.

Dose Of Colors Lip It Up Satin Lipstick Review

It didn't take much for me to decide I wanted to pick up some of the new Lip It Up Satin Lipsticks by Dose of Colors. In fact, all it took was seeing a few bloggers swatch them on Snapchat. I mean, an entire line of neutral "bullet" lipsticks in pretty rose gold packaging? Sign me up.

I headed over to YouTube and watched a few lip swatch videos to decide which shades to pick out. Butterscotch is a very light and peachy nude, Toast is a mid-toned warm brown and Mocha is a deeper, purple based brown. All three are beautiful and wearable.

My Current Beauty Wishlist | 001

I've been trying to become a more responsible consumer this past year. I try not to get anything on a whim. I like to read reviews from different people to get a feel for how something might work for me. I've been doing my best to not buy something just because it's being splashed all over my Instagram feed, but sometimes it's hard! There are some products that just call your name, practicality be damned.

Here you'll find a list of the products that I've decided would fit into my collection, get use and be loved. As much as you can decide that kind of thing without actually owning the products, anyway.

Milani Haul, Review and Swatches

If your Instagram feed is anything like mine, then you've been seeing Milani everywhere. Their blushes, bronzers and highlighters seem to be in every other flatlay I see. I was going to say that I'm only human, and that I can only look at something so pretty for so long until I need it. But I think that makes me more like a magpie seeing a shiny object. So, I guess I'm only magpie.

I spent what felt like hours looking up swatches of their baked and rose blushes. It got to the point where I wanted all of them, because, well, look at them. After having a stern talking to myself about how I don't even have room for that many new blushes, I narrowed my list.

Empties - Products I've Used Up | 001

I love reading about what products people have finished up! I find it so much more informative than a review of a product that has only been used once or twice. So I wanted to share with you guys all of the empties I've been saving since January. Some products I loved, some I hated and a few were somewhere in the middle.

10 Binge-Watch Worthy Beauty Vloggers

I've been watching beauty vloggers long before I started my blog and my Instagram account. Sitting down after work and watching a tutorial or favourites video was what really got me into makeup. It's how I learnt about new products and new techniques. Of all of the people I subscribe to on YouTube, the following are my favourite to watch.

I love watching Jamie's videos when I am in the mood to shop. Why? Because whenever I'm done with watching a video of hers I've added like, at least 3 items to my wishlist. She does tutorials on wearable looks, give in depth reviews and product comparisons and seems so down to earth.

The Winter Beauty Edit

For complete and total sunshine lovers like me, winter isn't the most fun. I don't really like rain, or being cold, or the shorter daylight hours. But this year I'm going to try to make the most of it (we're only two weeks in, let's see how I'm feeling in two months time). In my quest to embrace winter I'm going to share my favourite makeup products for this time of the year.

Instagram Made Me Buy It

I have been an avid user of Instagram for years. I first opened an account in 2010, not having any idea that it was a social media platform. I thought it was just a photo editing app that had pretty filters. The shock when one day I realised that all of the photos I'd added were out there for the world to see! Fast forward seven years and I can't get enough of this app. Scrolling through my feed, interacting with other posters and watching Instastories has become a part of everyday life for so many.

I know I'm not the only one that is sometimes a little too influenced by Instagram. I decided make a post of a few of the products I've purchased after falling in love with them while scrolling through my feed. Luckily, they have all ended up working for me and some are absolute stand-outs in my collection. Be sure to check out the accounts I've shared in the photos (all linked below the pictures), they're all beautiful accounts ran by even more beautiful people.

Seeing the incredibly luxe, vintage inspired rose gold packaging had me itchy to place an order. I mean, look at them! The little lip imprint, the shade range, the fact that they're all inspired by women Charlotte has worked with. These little beauties were all over my feed and I had a serious case of FOMO. They're not cheap but they are worth every dollar. If you're looking to splurge on lipstick, Charlotte Tilbury is worth checking out.

My Holy Grail Makeup Products

I love knowing what products other people are loving, what's worth the money and the hype. So I wanted to share with you my ultimate favourites. The 'desert island' products. The products that work best for my skin and that I enjoy using most.

I've watched so many 'Holy Grail' and 'Ride or Die' videos on Youtube, dozens of blog posts and finally decided to share mine! I chose one product from each category (one liquid lipstick, one bronzer, etc) and it was so much easier than I thought it would be! I figured I would be sitting for hours, pondering which lip gloss really is my number one. But I guess, when it comes down to it, picking favourites isn't hard. I guess that's the difference between makeup and children. At least, that's what my mum would say.

Mother's Day Gift Guide 2017

With Mother's Day quickly approaching I thought it would be best to put together a little gift guide. If you have a mum that is hard to buy for (or you're really good at leaving things to the last minute) hopefully this will be helpful!

I've separated this guide into four sections to make it a little easier depending on what your mum likes/needs. If your mum is anything like mine, she doesn't spend a great deal on herself. So Mother's Day is the perfect excuse to spoil her.

Tarte Make Believe In Yourself Eye and Cheek Palette

I didn't need another eyeshadow palette. Like, at all. I didn't need another eyeshadow palette the last four or five times I got a new one. But hey, I don't smoke or drink. I'm allowed to have one vice. That vice just happens to be really pretty makeup. And Tarte really know what they're doing when it comes to really pretty makeup.

The Make Believe In Yourself Eye and Cheek palette retails on the Tarte website for $41 AUD, or on the Sephora Australia website for $60 AUD. It contains 10 eyeshadows and a highlight. The palette is round with a fun pink, purple and blue design on the front. The inside is gold and features a mirror. The palette feels quite sturdy, which would make it suitable for travel.

Clinique Pep-Start Skincare Range Review

The Clinique Pep-Start Collection contains three items. The Pep-Start 2-in-1 Exfoliating Cleanser, Pep-Start Hydroblur Moisturiser and Pep-Start Eye Cream. I was lucky enough to win this set from Clinique in a giveaway they were running on their Instagram account. I'm always excited to try out new skincare as well as items from brands that are new to me. I am probably the last person on earth to try anything from Clinique, but hey, we got there!

Colourpop Haul, Review and Swatches

Now I know I'm not the only one, but I am involved in a serious love affair with Colourpop. Since they released their pressed powder shadows I've been looking for a reason to do an order, and the release of their Highlighter Trios was the perfect excuse. I've had Stole The Show in my collection for quite some time and have loved it to death, so when I saw the cute packaging of their trios I couldn't resist. I had also been dying to try out their Lippie Stix as just about everyone I follow on Instagram has been raving about them for so long.

Charlotte Tilbury The Dolce Vita Luxury Eyeshadow Palette Review + Swatches

I am having a little love affair with Charlotte Tilbury at the moment. The brand has some incredibly luxe products, their Filmstar Bronze & Glow and their Hot Lips lipsticks are some of my favourite products in my collection. I received The Dolce Vita eyeshadow quad in my Beautylish Lucky Bag and was so incredibly excited! The quad had been sitting in my wishlist for a so long, so I was definitely ready to try it!

Lush Catastrophy Cosmetic Fresh Face Mask Review

In the passed few months I have become well and truly obsessed with skincare. I used to moisturise of a morning and night and call it a day, but now I have a complete routine. I've seen a huge difference in my skin since I've started taking care of it (shocking, right!?) and masking has been a huge part of that. I try do a mask every second night, and I recently picked up this one to try.
